Barbara Galinska

Barbara Galińska is one of the most versatile and recognizable calligraphers in Poland. The artist presented her works at almost 50 exhibitions in over a dozen countries, and conducted workshops in six. She founded the Warsaw Calligraphy House Association promoting beautiful handwriting.
After graduating from University, she worked as an architect for some time and then turned to drawing. She dealt with decoration and cartoon animation, illustrations, graphic and advertising design.
Barbara began her adventure with calligraphy in 2015 by learning traditional historical writings, then experimenting with letters, and now she is playing with them. May be she does not always treat them with the respect they deserve, but always with love. She creates
ambigrams, calligrams, and invents his own lettering and calligraphic compositions. She loves letters in all forms. And it is probably reciprocated love; she often has the impression that interesting compositions are created without her participation - all she had to do was take a pen in her hand.
The artist proves that you can write on anything and on any surface - a carrot on paper, a broom on snow, a shell on sand, a finger on a dirty car window…Barbara is a perfect example that the adventure with calligraphy can be started at any age and at any time in life. You just have to really want it and be crazy about letters.

My work STOP WAR! was created as a result of an international calligraphy challenge. The purpose of this graphic was intended to draw attention to the ongoing war in Ukraine and the emergence of a new chapter in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I wanted it to be strong and eye-catching. The red letters "STOP" surround the black "WAR", creating an unsettling maze. You have to stop in front of it to be able to read and understand the unusual structure of the letters.
Unexpectedly, the artwork has gained worldwide recognition, appearing on murals, posters
and T-shirts around the world. There were even almost 100-meter-high letters STOP WAR! written on the beaches. The overwhelming response is like a worldwide exhibition of one work, exceeding the scope of my previous calligraphic works. Although I do not expect magical solutions, I hope that the sign will become a universal symbol of peace. When this dream comes true, I will return to the beauty of calligraphy.
